CONGRESSMAN BOUCHER ANNOUNCES ECONOMIC RECOVERY ACT FUNDING TO PROVIDE WATER SERVICE TO MORE CARROLL COUNTY RESIDENTS

$338,000 Will Provide New Water Service for Residents of Honeycutt Dam Road

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Representative Rick Boucher announced today that, as a result of the economic Recovery Act approved by Congress, the U.S. Department of Agriculture through its Rural Development Agency has provided a total of $338,000 to the Carroll County Public Service Authority to provide public water service for the first time to 33 homes along Honeycutt Dam Road in Woodlawn.

"As a result of the economic Recovery Act approved by Congress earlier this year, communities throughout the Ninth Congressional District have been awarded more than $100 million to construct new and improve existing water and wastewater systems. The funding announced today for Carroll County will provide public water service for the first time to 33 homes along Honeycutt Dam Road," Boucher said.

The Rural Development Agency is awarding the Carroll County Public Service Authority a grant of $155,000 and a low-interest federal loan of $183,000. With the benefit of the federal funds, the Public Service Authority will install 9700 feet of water lines along Honeycutt Dam Road to provide public water service to 33 homes. Currently, these homes rely on private wells which, in some cases, have very low water yields and poor water quality.

"Adequate and reliable public water service is essential to maintaining Southwest Virginia's excellent quality of life and to achieving our economic development goals for the region. Today's announcement will assist our ongoing work to expand water and wastewater systems throughout the region," Boucher concluded.
